The team also signed wide receiver Torrey Grissett and linebacker Craig Robertson to the practice squad.

While the rest of the AFC North is jockeying for a spot in the playoffs, the Browns are once again positioning themselves for one of the top spots in the NFL draft.

If the season ended today, the Browns would have the seventh overall pick.

This is familiar territory for Cleveland. In 13 drafts since returning to the NFL as an expansion team, the Browns have had a top-10 pick nine times. It happened in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

    Here's the current draft order:
    1. Colts (0-12)
    2. Rams (2-10)
    3. Vikings (2-10)
    4. Jaguars (3-8 )
    5. Redskins (4-8 )
    6. Panthers (4-8 )
    7. Browns (4-8 )
    8. Eagles (4-8 )
    9. Dolphins (4-8 )
    10. Buccaneers (4-8 )

Plus, Atlanta's #1 pick which is somewhere in the 20's. ...

(Opening statement)- “Good morning. I thought at yesterday’s practice we got a lot done. We’re ready, after the walkthrough this morning, to get another hopefully good practice in this afternoon and keep going through the process of getting ready to play Indianapolis.”

(On if Mohamed Massaquoi got hurt during practice yesterday)-
“No, I think it’s something about his hamstring. In my opinion Mohamed is still dealing with not having had as many reps as he might have had in training camp. There’s no real issue with him, I think he’ll be there. He did not hurt himself yesterday and there was really nothing to report from anything that happened on Sunday.”

(On if Massaquoi will sit out today)-
“No, he’ll be out there. He’ll be practicing. In fact for being limited yesterday, he did just about everything. I just want to make sure we’re doing it the right way.”

(On T.J. Ward matching up against Dallas Clark)-
“I think T.J. does a nice job in coverage. The nature of the size sometimes, he’s tight to the coverage. Throughout the year, we’re going to face some really ...

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns have extended defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin’s contract for three seasons, locking up another core player for the future.

Rubin’s 82 tackles led all NFL defensive linemen last season. He was in the final year of his contract, and his new deal is through the 2014 season. The 310-pounder never stops moving on the field and his work ethic and upside convinced the Browns to invest in him for three more seasons.

Financial terms were not immediately available.

The Browns remain in talks with running back Peyton Hillis on a new deal. Hillis, who rushed for nearly 1,200 yards last season, is making $555,000 this season.

Before extending Rubin, the Browns signed Pro Bowl tackle Joe ...

(Opening statement)- “You start out (the way we did) and look what happened, I mean you’ve made a season full of mistakes there in the first quarter. I think we had seven penalties in the first quarter. No excuses. I don’t care if you’re a rookie, I don’t care if you’ve been in this thing for 12 years and I don’t care if this is your last game, you can’t make mistakes and I think there were a lot of unforced errors there. Now we found a way to score 17 unanswered points. We had them backed up a couple of times and we got three points out of the deal. Not good enough. You can’t win when you do that. There are a lot of things we have to learn from this thing. We had a situation where they made a big play on us. Once that happens, the game is not over. You’ve got to put yourself in position where you go down the field, you score and you win. We had a couple chances to do that and we didn’t do it. I think the one thing ...

(Opening statement)- “We’ve been talking about it all week, this is a Friday in our world. That was a typical Friday practice. Before I get going, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, Eric Steinbach is having surgery this morning. He’s having surgery on his back. I think the surgery started around 10:00 and we’ve been trying to get a call and get an update, but we haven’t heard anything yet. I hate to speculate as to what’s going to happen with that. We kind of made decision yesterday, late in the day, that he was finally going to have the surgery. He tried to do some treatments to see if it would rectify itself, it didn’t so that was the next action. We’ll find out about that.”

(On if Steinbach is out for the year)-
“I don’t know. Until we know what’s happened from the surgery, it’s hard to say, but we should know that very soon. We won’t keep that information from you and if he is out for the year then we’ll put ...

Originally drafted by the Ravens in the third round (99th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft, Cousins has appeared in 25 games with four starts.

A four-year letterman at the University of Texas-El Paso (2004-07), Cousins started in 24 career games at both left and right tackle for the Miners. As a junior, he was a member of an offensive unit that led Conference USA in passing offense, ranking fifth in the nation with 312.8 yards per game. During his collegiate career at the tackle position, UTEP set a school record with 5,074 yards of offense. A native of Fullerton, Calif., the 6-4, 315-pound Cousins attended Eastside Christian ...

According to Twitter reports, it appears that former Cleveland Browns starting safety Abe Elam has signed a one year, $2.5 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday night.

The rumors and speculation had been ongoing for a few days now.

Elam got an identical contract to Gerald Sensabaugh, who just re-signed with the team. The two veterans will battle for playing time, with Elam possibly having the edge because he played for Rob Ryan the last two years in Cleveland.

Elam broke into the league with the Cowboys in 2006 as an undrafted rookie. Following his one year stint in Dallas, Elam had two decent years in New York with the Jets. Elam parlayed that into a nice contract and a starting spot in Cleveland for Ryan in 2009 and 2010. Elam had ...
