Its been a long time since the Browns have had a QB that actually looks like a NFL QB.
    Kizer looks like our guy.

Like I have said before, and you will appreciate this Cheffie, the time has come for a different colored #7 jersey to rule the AFC North.

So the depth chart will be either Osw or Kizer the starter, Kessler the #2. If Osw is the starter, Kizer slides to 3, but that's just a placeholder for him. But if Kizer is named the starter, then Osw...maybe gets cut?
I don't think Kessler gets cut or traded. You need a good backup that can come in and hold down the fort until the starter comes back. I don't think Osweier gets traded at all. It only hurts the team. We don't really have the luxury to just send him off. He could be our starter for a couple more years. You never know.
Swung on and belted!!!!! Awaaaaay back...... Gone!!!!

Not really, as it does get us out from that bloated contract. That was the rationale for getting him in the first place - get that 2nd round pick form Houston & then find a trade partner to ship him off.

Now, since then, Hue has been saying how good Osw has looked in camp & certainly, if we have stumbled across our starter for the next few years, awesome. But I think it all comes back to Kizer - he's going to be the starter. We just don't know when yet.

Let's just say for the sake of discussion that Hue names Kizer the starter for the season. That makes Kessler the backup. Are we really going to keep a third string QB who makes $16m a year?

The scenario that I see playing out is Osweiler is the starter with Kizer as backup and Cody as the fall back plan. It is really sad to say, but $16M for a starting NFL QB is not outrageous by any means.

For a starter, yes. I'm not debating that point.

But what happens when Kizer becomes the starter? It will happen at some point. Now, do we pay $16m for a backup, when we got Kessler under a rookie contract?

I think that when the day comes that Osw is no longer the starter, he's no longer on the team.

Its a one year contract, and it wont hurt them, if they keep him as an insurance policy.
I still think he starts the season as the #1.

Oh, it is? I didn't realize it's just one-year...thought there were multiple years at $16m (or more) per year.

In that case, we are probably on the hook for the $16m for 2017 regardless. So yeah, if that's the case then he's a Brown thru 2017...even if at some point Kizer takes over.

Its not truly a one year deal, but they can cut him after this year and owe him nothing. His contract was front loaded. This yeal all 16 million is guaranteed. The next two years carry no dead money, so they can cut ties with him.
