Slow start fogs Browns' bright future

Written by Russell Williams, Browns 24/7 staff

CLEVELAND, Ohio - When it comes to football in September, Browns fans are known to be optimistic. But when it comes to the end of September and early October - fans begin to wonder what type of product is being utilized on the football field every Sunday afternoon.

The Cleveland Browns are currently 0-3, all three losses are to teams who are above .500. The Philadelphia Eagles are super bowl contenders, led by a dangerous offense and a threatening defense. The Browns, whom had the teams best defensive back in Joe Haden that day - lost 17-16. The defense was outstanding, but the offense was pitifully. Raising questions and speculation is to if the Browns made the right selections in April.

However, the teams offense would strike back fearfully the following week against the Cincinnati Bengals, especially 3rd overall ...

Source: Browns are going to be sold to Jimmy Haslam, Tennessee billionaire:

Written by Russell Williams, Browns 24/7 staff

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns have been making questionable decisions since they returned in 1999. But just as the team is starting to look like a competitive franchise, the Browns are reportedly being placed on the market and being sold.

According to sources, the Cleveland Browns are going to be sold to billionaire business man Jimmy Haslam. The Browns were rumored to be on the market a few months back, but the rumor was put away by the club saying they weren't up for sale. Now, the Browns and owner Randy Lerner have confirmed the talks and, according to a source, will be selling the team to Haslam.

Jimmy Haslam is the CEO of Pilot Corporation, ...

Browns agree to terms with Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden before camp

Written by Russell Williams, Browns 24/7 staff

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns waited until the top two picks were signed in Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III before making major strides in signing their two first round draft choices. But they managed to do it just in time before the start of training camp.

Last night the Cleveland Browns came to terms with 3rd overall pick Trent Richardson on a 4-year $20.5 million dollar deal with a $13.3 million dollar signing bonus to boot. They didn't stop there with Richardson, making great improvements last night with Brandon Weeden and his agent, Sean Howard in attempts to strike a deal before the start of camp. They ended up doing ...

The Cleveland Browns today signed free agent tight end Dan Gronkowski and promoted linebacker Brian Smith to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. In addition, the club placed linebacker Titus Brown and tight end Alex Smith on injured reserve. The team also signed wide receiver Torrey Grissett and linebacker Craig Robertson to the practice squad.

Originally drafted by Detroit in the seventh round (255th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, Gronkowski has appeared in 19 career games with five starts and has recorded nine receptions for 69 yards. He spent the first 12 weeks of his rookie season on the Lions’ practice squad before appearing in two contests. He was traded to the Denver Broncos along with a draft pick for defensive back Alphonso Smith on September 4, 2010. Gronkowski ...

    Fansanity

    By Browns Town.

So, the Cleveland Browns are off to another one of our seasons. The kind where you just sit back and think.. Damn it, what the HELL are they doing out there? Does [Insert Player here] even belong in this league? If we only had a [insert skill position here] we would have had a chance. Constantly we found ourselves coming up either just a little short or just completely over matched. And if it's not that it is the coaches and the management of the team. EVERY year it's the saaaaaame damn thing. Every year we fans find ourselves griping that something needs to be done! We as fans of this team deserve better. When is this going to change?

A man once told me, "The definition ...

(Opening statement)- “Good morning. I thought at yesterday’s practice we got a lot done. We’re ready, after the walkthrough this morning, to get another hopefully good practice in this afternoon and keep going through the process of getting ready to play Indianapolis.”

(On if Mohamed Massaquoi got hurt during practice yesterday)-
“No, I think it’s something about his hamstring. In my opinion Mohamed is still dealing with not having had as many reps as he might have had in training camp. There’s no real issue with him, I think he’ll be there. He did not hurt himself yesterday and there was really nothing to report from anything that happened on Sunday.”

(On if Massaquoi will sit out today)-
“No, he’ll be out there. He’ll be practicing. In fact for being limited yesterday, he did just about everything. I just want to make sure we’re doing it the right way.”

(On T.J. Ward matching up against Dallas Clark)-
“I think T.J. does a nice job in coverage. The nature of the size sometimes, he’s tight to the coverage. Throughout the year, we’re going to face some really ...

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns have extended defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin’s contract for three seasons, locking up another core player for the future.

Rubin’s 82 tackles led all NFL defensive linemen last season. He was in the final year of his contract, and his new deal is through the 2014 season. The 310-pounder never stops moving on the field and his work ethic and upside convinced the Browns to invest in him for three more seasons.

Financial terms were not immediately available.

The Browns remain in talks with running back Peyton Hillis on a new deal. Hillis, who rushed for nearly 1,200 yards last season, is making $555,000 this season.

Before extending Rubin, the Browns signed Pro Bowl tackle Joe ...

(Opening statement)- “You start out (the way we did) and look what happened, I mean you’ve made a season full of mistakes there in the first quarter. I think we had seven penalties in the first quarter. No excuses. I don’t care if you’re a rookie, I don’t care if you’ve been in this thing for 12 years and I don’t care if this is your last game, you can’t make mistakes and I think there were a lot of unforced errors there. Now we found a way to score 17 unanswered points. We had them backed up a couple of times and we got three points out of the deal. Not good enough. You can’t win when you do that. There are a lot of things we have to learn from this thing. We had a situation where they made a big play on us. Once that happens, the game is not over. You’ve got to put yourself in position where you go down the field, you score and you win. We had a couple chances to do that and we didn’t do it. I think the one thing ...
