The Cleveland Browns today signed free agent tight end Dan Gronkowski and promoted linebacker Brian Smith to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. In addition, the club placed linebacker Titus Brown and tight end Alex Smith on injured reserve. The team also signed wide receiver Torrey Grissett and linebacker Craig Robertson to the practice squad.

Originally drafted by Detroit in the seventh round (255th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, Gronkowski has appeared in 19 career games with five starts and has recorded nine receptions for 69 yards. He spent the first 12 weeks of his rookie season on the Lions’ practice squad before appearing in two contests. He was traded to the Denver Broncos along with a draft pick for defensive back Alphonso Smith on September 4, 2010. Gronkowski ...

    By Browns Town.

So, the Cleveland Browns are off to another one of our seasons. The kind where you just sit back and think.. Damn it, what the HELL are they doing out there? Does [Insert Player here] even belong in this league? If we only had a [insert skill position here] we would have had a chance. Constantly we found ourselves coming up either just a little short or just completely over matched. And if it's not that it is the coaches and the management of the team. EVERY year it's the saaaaaame damn thing. Every year we fans find ourselves griping that something needs to be done! We as fans of this team deserve better. When is this going to change?

A man once told me, "The definition ...

(Opening statement)- “Good morning. I thought at yesterday’s practice we got a lot done. We’re ready, after the walkthrough this morning, to get another hopefully good practice in this afternoon and keep going through the process of getting ready to play Indianapolis.”

(On if Mohamed Massaquoi got hurt during practice yesterday)-
“No, I think it’s something about his hamstring. In my opinion Mohamed is still dealing with not having had as many reps as he might have had in training camp. There’s no real issue with him, I think he’ll be there. He did not hurt himself yesterday and there was really nothing to report from anything that happened on Sunday.”

(On if Massaquoi will sit out today)-
“No, he’ll be out there. He’ll be practicing. In fact for being limited yesterday, he did just about everything. I just want to make sure we’re doing it the right way.”

(On T.J. Ward matching up against Dallas Clark)-
“I think T.J. does a nice job in coverage. The nature of the size sometimes, he’s tight to the coverage. Throughout the year, we’re going to face some really ...

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns have extended defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin’s contract for three seasons, locking up another core player for the future.

Rubin’s 82 tackles led all NFL defensive linemen last season. He was in the final year of his contract, and his new deal is through the 2014 season. The 310-pounder never stops moving on the field and his work ethic and upside convinced the Browns to invest in him for three more seasons.

Financial terms were not immediately available.

The Browns remain in talks with running back Peyton Hillis on a new deal. Hillis, who rushed for nearly 1,200 yards last season, is making $555,000 this season.

Before extending Rubin, the Browns signed Pro Bowl tackle Joe ...

(Opening statement)- “You start out (the way we did) and look what happened, I mean you’ve made a season full of mistakes there in the first quarter. I think we had seven penalties in the first quarter. No excuses. I don’t care if you’re a rookie, I don’t care if you’ve been in this thing for 12 years and I don’t care if this is your last game, you can’t make mistakes and I think there were a lot of unforced errors there. Now we found a way to score 17 unanswered points. We had them backed up a couple of times and we got three points out of the deal. Not good enough. You can’t win when you do that. There are a lot of things we have to learn from this thing. We had a situation where they made a big play on us. Once that happens, the game is not over. You’ve got to put yourself in position where you go down the field, you score and you win. We had a couple chances to do that and we didn’t do it. I think the one thing ...

(Opening statement)- “We’ve been talking about it all week, this is a Friday in our world. That was a typical Friday practice. Before I get going, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, Eric Steinbach is having surgery this morning. He’s having surgery on his back. I think the surgery started around 10:00 and we’ve been trying to get a call and get an update, but we haven’t heard anything yet. I hate to speculate as to what’s going to happen with that. We kind of made decision yesterday, late in the day, that he was finally going to have the surgery. He tried to do some treatments to see if it would rectify itself, it didn’t so that was the next action. We’ll find out about that.”

(On if Steinbach is out for the year)-
“I don’t know. Until we know what’s happened from the surgery, it’s hard to say, but we should know that very soon. We won’t keep that information from you and if he is out for the year then we’ll put ...

The Cleveland Browns were awarded offensive lineman Oniel Cousins off waivers from Baltimore, the team announced today.

Originally drafted by the Ravens in the third round (99th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft, Cousins has appeared in 25 games with four starts.

A four-year letterman at the University of Texas-El Paso (2004-07), Cousins started in 24 career games at both left and right tackle for the Miners. As a junior, he was a member of an offensive unit that led Conference USA in passing offense, ranking fifth in the nation with 312.8 yards per game. During his collegiate career at the tackle position, UTEP set a school record with 5,074 yards of offense. A native of Fullerton, Calif., the 6-4, 315-pound Cousins attended Eastside Christian ...

Browns agreed to terms with LT Joe Thomas on a seven-year, $84 million extension with $44 million guaranteed.

The mammoth extension pays Thomas Larry Fitzgerald/Julius Peppers kind of money, busting the old high-water mark for offensive line guarantees. And he's worth every penny. Thomas has played four years in the NFL. He's made the Pro Bowl in each season, twice been a first-team All-Pro, never missed a start, and (our favorite Thomas fact): Never missed a practice.

The Browns don't have many playmakers on offense, but they have the best left tackle in football protecting their QB-of-the-future hopeful, Colt McCoy.
